I was never a fan of avocado until I tried Avocado Gula Melaka Milkshake. I was an instant convert. For those who are not quite used to the taste of avocado, the gula melaka is a great addition to help balance out the flavours.
Avocado Gula Melaka Milkshake is the one drink I will always order at foodcourts or when I pass by beverage franchises, but it’s really expensive at $5 per drink.
It’s actually so easy to make on your own that sometimes I wonder why I fork out that much for a drink. For those who don’t like avocado, try this and you’ll probably be a convert yourself!

So how do we choose a ripe avocado? These are the traits you should be looking out for:
1. Colour is purplish-black
2. It’s a little soft when you press it lightly
3. If you pluck out the stem at the top, the inside should be green and not brown (if it’s brown it’s too ripe)
All you need are: avocados, milk, ice cubes, gula melaka and water. First, melt the gula melaka and water in a pot over medium heat until all the gula melaka has melted.
Then, blend the avocados, milk, ice cubes and gula melaka syrup together in a blender until smooth. You can adjust the amount of each item according to your own liking. I personally don’t like it too thick, so I didn’t put too many avocados.
Note: If you want to control the sweetness of each individual cup of avocado smoothie, don’t blend the gula melaka syrup together with the rest of the ingredients.
Instead, add the gula melaka syrup into each cup according to the sweetness level you prefer.
And that’s it! Now you have a refreshing, sweet and creamy smoothie!
