Ingredients

  • A pack of wonton wrappers
  • 1 beaten egg
  • White or black sesame seeds
  • Oil for deep-frying
  • Barbecue seasoning and your favorite dipping sauce

Instructions

  • Stack two pieces of wonton wrappers.
  • Fold them in half sideways.
  • Cut a straight line through the middle. This should give you an opening in the center.
  • Hold the wrapper with two hands, with the folded part at the bottom.
  • Take the left end of the wrapper and twist it inward through the opening.
  • Gently pull it apart to tighten the knot and stay in place.
  • Beat one egg in a bowl.
  • Use an oil brush to brush the surface of each knotted wrapper with the beaten egg.
  • Sprinkle some white or black sesame seeds on top.
  • Prepare your pot with oil and heat it to around 320°F. The oil should be hot enough for deep-frying to avoid soggines. I recommend oils with a high smoke point such as avocado, peanut, canola, and corn oil.
  • Once it is hot, carefully fry the wonton pieces until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  • To enhance the flavor, sprinkle some barbecue seasoning or dip it in a dipping sauce.
