What Is Ginger Juice?

Ginger juice is made from fresh ginger roots that are blended with a blender or extracted with a juicer.

There are several different ways to use ginger juice and extracts, from a cool refreshing drink to a mixture to soak your feet. The juice can be enjoyed either warm for cool days or cold for hot summers.

The taste is generally spicy, peppery, and slightly sweet. The texture is smooth with a warming but comforting kick in the mouth and throat. Homemade is always a better option than buying store-bought ginger juice with preservatives.

With a glass of ginger juice, you get better digestion and a boost in your immune system. Ginger juice has been known to relieve nausea, migraine, and indigestion. Moreover, it helps with weight loss and lowering blood sugar.

How To Store Ginger Cubes And Dried Ginger

In my recipe, I show how to use ginger juice and leftover pulp. The juice is stored in an ice tray to be stored in the freezer. It should be strained well before putting it in the ice tray.

let it cool before storing it in ice trays

You can store the juice in the fridge as well, but make sure it is stored in an airtight container or sealed jar. It can be kept in the fridge for up to 3 days at least. So, that’s why I recommend storing it in the freezer as ice cubes to extend the shelf life.

For the pulp or ginger dregs after juicing, don’t throw them away just yet! Use it as a foot bath to soak your feet. Dry it out first before storing it in disposable tea bags or filter bags.

Tips And Suggestions For Ginger Juice

What I love about ginger juice is that it is highly versatile and can be made using different methods. You can add more ingredients to make customized versions of this recipe. Plus, you can make its juice even without a juicer. Follow my tips and suggestions below to enjoy ginger juice fully.

  • Juicer alternatives: In my recipe, I used a juicer to be able to separate the ginger dregs from the juice easily. If you don’t have a juicer, you can do it manually with a blender or food processor. After blending, separate the dregs using a cheesecloth or strainer and squeeze out as much juice as you can.
  • Small and fast serving: If you want a quick ginger juice drink, you can use a garlic press to squeeze the juice out from a small piece of ginger. You can also peel and grate the ginger and squeeze the juice out using a cheesecloth or strainer to get a few teaspoons of juice. Then, add water to dilute the juice and other ingredients you wish to add.
  • Fresh ginger alternative: There isn’t any alternative to fresh ginger. You cannot use ground ginger for this recipe since the taste and result will not be the same.
  • Peel or unpeeled: It’s always better to peel the ginger before juicing or blending. The skin of the ginger may have some dirt and impurities left even after washing. Nevertheless, whether you peel the ginger or not, it will not have any significant difference in terms of taste.
  • Adjust the water: In my recipe, I add water and sugar to dilute the strong spicy taste of ginger. You can adjust the amount of water according to your preference. Put more water for a milder taste and less for a stronger and spicy taste. Aside from water, you can swap it for coconut water for a richer taste.
  • Sugar alternative: You can use any type of sugar if you want to add a bit of sweetness to combat the peppery flavors of ginger. Use maple syrup, brown sugar, muscovado, or agave.
  • Customize the flavor:Aside from regular ginger juice, you can add other fresh herbs such as basil or mint. You can adjust the flavor by adding vanilla extract, turmeric, lemon, or orange juice. If you want a punch of heat, add a pinch of cayenne pepper and adjust it according to your preferred heat level.
